Taught by a seasoned GeoAmbassador, Maureen Gallagher, with 35+ years in science communication and government engagement.
Course Description:
Part of the EFG’s in-person Geo-Ambassador training series at IPGC 2025, this session introduces public affairs communication essentials. Geoscientists will explore how to scale their messages for various government levels, understand audience needs, and prepare tools like one-pagers and elevator speeches. Participants are expected to come with a topic or example to build their own communications outline.

• Laptop or tablet
• Working example or topic in mind

• Learn the fundamentals of public affairs communication
• Recognise communication pitfalls common among scientists
• Build a basic communications plan for your project
Who should attend:
Geoscientists and technical professionals looking to increase their outreach effectiveness with decision-makers and the public. Suitable for beginner to intermediate levels.
